Lisa Turley spent her senior year of high school studying abroad in Cape Coast, Ghana with the Kennedy-Ludar Youth Exchange and Study (K-L YES) Abroad Program. While she was there she was given the opportunity to teach English and Reading at Brafoyaw AME Zion Basic School. As she taught, she increasingly saw the need for a school library. Most students at Brafoyaw don't own any books besides the required textbooks.
She worked to convert an old storage room into a room suitable for a library, but did not have the means or resources to stock the library while she lived in Ghana. The Brafoyaw Library Project was created to obtain books (and funding to ship the books) for the library of this basic school. Books are needed for pre-school to 8th grade students.
